A 16-year-old girl from Toronto has been charged with assault following an incident that police suspect was hate-motivated.

Toronto Police received a call for an assault on Saturday at about 2:30 a.m. in the St. Clair Ave. E.-O’Connor Dr. area.

Police alleged that after picking up a fare, a ride-share company driver cancelled the trip due to the passenger’s behaviour, at which point the passenger made anti-South Asian comments and assaulted the driver.

In an unrelated case, police charged a 40-year-old Toronto man with mischief in an incident that police suspect is hate-motivated.
Police received a call for mischief in the Vaughan Rd.-Eglinton Ave. W. area on Dec. 18.
It’s alleged that a man was walking in the area and vandalized the front steps of a Jewish school.
Ian Locke was charged with mischief — interfering with property.
