Upon leaving the venue and heading for their awaiting car, the international pop stars were swarmed by fans and paparazzi hoping to catch a glimpse of them.
Among the chaos was Kyle and Jackie O’s producer “Intern Pete”, who took to Sunrise on Wednesday to tell the tale.
The media personality called it “absolute mayhem”, explaining to co-hosts Natalie Barr and Matt Shirvington that it was “pretty crazy because it started off quite quiet”.
“Later on, fans started to trickle in because they heard word that she was there,” he said.
“The Swifties are like, ‘Ah let her have her private time’, but she was pretty open to it.
“She didn’t say anything but she got up and close with all the fans and did the Taylor thing that she does so well.”
Pete left the venue not only with videos of the two pop stars, but he managed to get a copy of their table’s bill.
He revealed that it came to $620 — and they tipped $300.
The pair dined out on focaccia, olives, and an array of small pasta dishes.
As Pete continued to read the docket, someone suddenly splashed some water on his face from off-camera.
The water then appeared to impact the microphone, with Shirvo describing the sound as being like he was “underwater”.
“What’s happening to your microphone? Something’s disconnected, Pete we’ve lost your microphone at the crucial time,” Nat said.
“Did they do that deliberately?”
“I think they must have,” Shirvo agreed, “Are you not allowed to talk about this, Pete?”
The hosts speculated that Pete may have “signed something” and teased that Swift’s lawyers were in the room.
Swift is reportedly staying at the Crown Hotel at Barangaroo, a short drive to Pellegrino 2000, which is in the near-city suburb of Surry Hills.
The eatery is described on its website as a “neighbourhood trattoria”.
During her dinner outing, Swift wore a suede skirt and black corset-styled top — a favourite look of hers, most recently displayed at the Super Bowl.
She kept her hair completely natural, and her make-up simple, opting for her signature cat eye and a muted red lip colour.
Meanwhile, Carpenter, a former Disney child star who is Swift’s support act, smiled in a red minidress with black tights and held onto a black leather jacket.
She paired the look with a Louis Vuitton bag and a blown-out hairstyle.
Following the record-breaking Melbourne leg of the Eras Tour, the duo is preparing to take to the stage once more, playing four shows at Sydney’s Accor Stadium from February 23 to 26.
They will then head to Singapore for the next stop of the Eras Tour on March 2.
