After previously suggesting that 2024 was going to be its biggest year ever, the makers of Evercade continue to back it up with even more huge announcements and hardware reveals. The latest is the announcement of two new miniature arcade machines launching in 2024. Featuring a variety of Capcom games, the Evercade Alpha mini arcades will be available in November, with pre-orders going live in June. Priced at £199.99 during the pre-order period from June to November (and £229.99 after launch), the mini arcade cabinets contain six Capcom games each, including titles like Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha, Mega Man: The Power Battle and Strider. There’s even a special Deluxe Edition priced at £249.99, which is said to contain over £100 of retro gaming extras. You can check out the announcement trailer below.
A must-have for fighting game fans, the Evercade Alpha Street Fighter Arcade features Street Fighter II Champion Edition, Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors’ Dreams, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Street Fighter Alpha 3 and the superb Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo.
The Evercade Alpha Mega Man Edition contains more of a mixture of games, such as Mega Man: The Power Battle, Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, Final Fight, Knights of the Round, Carrier Air Wing and Strider.
The cabinet itself features two USB ports for external controllers, which means you can play against friends.
It’s also said to contain a high-resolution 8-inch IPS screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio that “perfectly supports the included arcade games”.
I also quite like the coin trays at the base of the device, which are actually dual Evercade cartridge slots.
Another thing that may not sound like a big deal is the fact that the Evercade Alpha actually comes with a mains plug and USB-C cable. Other similar devices have required specific plugs without actually providing customers with one.
Elsewhere, the Evercade Alpha arcade cabinet comes with a light up marquee and swappable panels.
Evercade explains more: “Each Evercade Alpha comes with 3 marquee panels included in the box, with the others available separately from Funstock.”
Speaking of additional panels, the aforementioned Deluxe Edition contains all six panels available from Funstock. That’s on top of an exclusive poster, as well as a second controller with the Alpha branding.
Perhaps best of all, however, is the inclusion of superior Sanwa controls, which are pre-installed into the unit. This should make the Deluxe device feel even more like the real thing.
Needless to say, the Evercade Alpha arcade machines are also compatible with every other Evercade cartridge, which means you can use it to play upwards of 500 games.
Daily Express will be back with pre-order links in June.
