From Paul the Octopus to the lesser known Walter the Orangutan, everybody has a prediction in their back pocket when it comes to football. Video games have also been used to predict football scores, including EA Sports FC 24, which recently added an official Euro 2024 game mode as part of a free update. Ahead of England’s opening game against Serbia, Electronic Arts has run a test to see how far England can get in the tournament and who they could potentially face if they made it to the final. Indeed, EA Sports simulated hundreds of tournaments to see who comes out on top more often than not.
According to EA’s simulations, England are favourites to win the tournament and end the 58-year wait for silverware.
Perhaps more surprisingly given the various ramifications of where teams finish in their groups, EA Sports FC 24 thinks England will face Germany in the final.
“The most coveted prize in European international football is here with the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament,” reads an EA blog post.
“Hosts Germany welcome 23 other nations—including reigning champions, Italy — to compete for the title of Europe’s best.
“Powered by our advanced Frostbite engine, we’ve used the official Tournament mode equipped with HyperMotionV technology to simulate hundreds of tournaments to determine who will hoist the trophy in July.
“The final will see two international football giants take to the stage.”
According to EA Sports, England will win the final against Germany, and Harry Kane will score the winning goal.
“England, having endured 58 years of hurt since winning their last International trophy at Wembley, London, will take on their host, Germany at the Olympiastadion, Berlin in the UEFA EURO 2024 final on July 14.
“After a tense and engaging battle, we will watch as Harry Kane scores a late winner to seal victory for ENGLAND in a 2-1 thriller.”
As part of the recently released Euro 2024 game mode, fans can play through the tournament with all of the official standings, groups, squads and players.
Players can also create their own Euro 2024 tournaments, taking teams through qualification and into the finals.
New commentary has also been recorded for the tournament, complete with updated analysis and background for each team.
