The two men on board the plane then scrambled onto nearby boats.

NSW Ambulance were called to treat the men, both aged in their 50s.

The aircraft has since been towed into shore, Fire and Rescue NSW said.

“Please avoid the area and keep access clear for emergency vehicles,” it said.

“FRNSW HAZMAT (hazardous materials) specialists have established booms around the gyrocopter to contain any fuel leak.”

Both men are in a stable condition.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
