A woman’s dog helped her escape a stranger in Bowmanville on Saturday after a man grabbed her by the neck, according to Durham Regional Police.

A woman was walking her dog at about 11:15 a.m. on a pathway near Soper Creek Dr. and Concessions St. E., when a stranger approached her.
“The male spoke with the victim and as she attempted to walk away from him, he grabbed her by the neck and told her to come with him,” Sgt. Joanne Bortoluss said in a news release. “With the assistance of her dog, the victim was able to break free from the male.”

The man, who fled, is described as Black, in his early 30s, and 6-foot-3. He had a medium build, short dark hair, a goatee and a large neck tattoo.
The victim wasn’t physically injured.
