We’re approaching the final days of summer, and New York’s fashion crowd spent Thursday evening celebrating the beloved Dôen founders, Margaret and Katherine Kleveland, and their newest endeavor: a Sag Harbor store.
For those unfamiliar with the backstory of the cult favorite brand Dôen, it began in 2016, when the two sisters created a quintessential California wardrobe full of vintage-inspired bohemian dresses. Then, they met two editors, Laura Brown and Kristina O’Neill, who fell in love with the brand’s romantic floral prints and helped throw the weight of the New York fashion scene behind them. Yesterday evening, the pair teamed up again to help welcome the West Coast sisters to the Hamptons with an outdoor soiree at The Maidstone in Easthampton.
The evening began at sunset with cocktails at the garden of The Maidstone alongside plenty of loyal Dôen fans, including Naomi Watts, Emily Weiss, and Rachel Zoe. It was a breezy summer night: perfect for wearing a look from the Dôen sisters’ pre-fall collection—including striped sweaters and moodier floral prints—that recently launched in stores.
During the dinner in Easthampton, the two sisters kept things casual and intimate, with dinner served family-style and glasses of Avaline wine—made by the sisters’ friends Katherine Power and Cameron Diaz—being poured. Before the main course was served, Margaret, alongside Brown and O’Neill, stood up to give a toast to celebrate the loyal community of Dôen. “Seven years ago, we were a lesser-known West Coast brand, and there were two women that were these wildly accomplished New Yorkers that somehow decided to unconditionally believe in the brand, support us, give us contacts, and wear us all around the world,” explained Kleveland of Brown and O’Neill. “Tonight, to share with their community in New York a new store in Sag Harbor after having such an amazing response to having a physical presence in the West Village is a wonderful feeling.”
