I wasn’t expecting much from this base coat — after all, it’s a base coat and they’re whole job is to innocuously pave the way for the nail polish you put on top. But I was pleasantly surprised when I brushed it on. Dermelect Transfix Restore & Repair Base Coat has a sheer taupe-y tint that made for a fresh and healthy-looking manicure all on its own; as a fan of neutral nails and a terrible amateur manicurist, it was perfect for me. It also acted a little bit like concealer, hiding the damage that’s on one of my nails from an old at-home gel-sticker manicure I tried (it seems like it’s been there forever, argh!) even though it was sheer. It would have helped nail polish look better on top, except it was so pretty all on its own, I skipped the actual manicure part.
