(NewsNation) — David Knezevich has been detained without bond after being arrested in relation to the disappearance of his estranged wife, with the court saying he was a flight risk.
Knezevich was arrested on kidnapping charges related to the disappearance of his wife, Ana Maria Knezevich Henao. She disappeared while living in Spain as the couple were going through what friends described as a contentious divorce.
Knezevich maintained he was in Serbia at the time, but court documents allege he rented a vehicle and drove to Spain, using a stolen license plate, around the time Knezevich Henao disappeared.
The documents also say surveillance videos show a man matching Knezevich’s description buying spray paint and covering the cameras in Knezevich Henao’s apartment building.
Investigators also allege Knezevich asked a woman to translate some messages into Spanish the day after Knezevich Henao disappeared.
Those messages, they say, are the same ones Knezevich Henao allegedly sent to friends. Those friends contacted authorities because they said the messages did not sound like her, and they did not believe they were legitimate.
Knezevich Henao’s whereabouts are still unknown.
