In an interview with Fox News that aired Monday night, the former president gave noncommittal answers when asked whether he would debate the presumptive Democratic nominee.
“I want to do a debate. But I also can say this. Everybody knows who I am. And now people know who she is,” Trump said, adding the he would “probably end up debating.”
“The answer is yes, but I can also make a case for not doing it,” he added.
After playing clips of those remarks, Chieng commented, “It sounds like Trump just lost a debate with himself?”
He added, “I don’t blame him for having second thoughts, OK? I mean, the last time Trump did a debate, he beat Biden so bad they gave him a tougher opponent.”
President Joe Biden dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed Harris after a catastrophic first debate performance prompted weeks of pressure from Democrats concerned about his ability to beat Trump in November. Harris has seen a groundswell of support since announcing her candidacy.
“No shit, he doesn’t want to debate again,” Chieng added. “I mean, if he debates again, either he loses to Kamala, or he wins and they swap her out for Abraham Lincoln. He’s like, ‘How many bosses are there in this game?’”
