Melania Trump’s memoir hasn’t been released yet, but people have already found an issue with it: the cover.
The front cover of “Melania” bears a strikingly similar look to “Chanel Catwalk,” a fashion book released in 2020, the Daily Beast pointed out. Like “Chanel Catwalk,” the former first lady’s cover has a simple design with a black background and white lettering, using a very similar block font.
Melania Trump was famously at the center of a plagiarism scandal when she gave a speech at the 2016 Republican National Convention that included quotes copied from Michelle Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention in 2008.
Melania Trump posted on social media on Monday that the book, which is out Oct. 1, is available for preorder.
“Our lives are shaped by our experiences, challenges, and achievements. For the first time, I share my journey with you, in my new memoir, Melania,” she wrote.
Given her history, critics were swift to pile on about the cover art.
“If you were wondering who Melania’s book was going to copy from, here you go. She’s decided to rip-off Chanel,” one wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
“Imagine that the lady who was furious she didn’t get a Vogue cover as First Lady has a memoir with no photo of her on the cover like in every other memoir in history. It’s a low-budget right-wing publisher, but still — couldn’t Trump have sprung for a photo cover for his 3rd wife?” wrote journalist Victoria Brownworth.
Another teased that the memoir resembled the cover of “A Book About Absolutely Nothing,” a joke book containing blank pages.
“Melania” is being published by Skyhorse Publishing, which did not immediately return HuffPost’s request for comment.
Former President Donald Trump pitched his wife’s book to supporters on Truth Social last week, writing, “if you love our former first lady as much as me, and are ready for the Truth, buy her new book now!”
According to a summary, the book includes reflections on Melania Trump’s childhood in Slovenia, her modeling career, her time in the White House and her “serendipitous meeting with Donald Trump, a chance encounter that forever changed the course of her life.”
