Fans on social media lost their mind after a clip of Jennifer Lopez being awkwardly asked about her marriage to Ben Affleck went viral following the Golden Globes.
While chatting with Variety, reporter Marc Malkin asked Lopez, 54, how she knew her marriage — which is her fourth — to the Oscar winner would “last.”

“When they say you know, you know. And other times, when you didn’t know, you also didn’t know,” Lopez, who walked down the aisle with Affleck, 51, in 2022, replied
“I think you always go in with the best of intentions every single time that you leap into anything,” she added. “I do, anyway. Not just personal life but in my professional life (too).”
Malkin continued to press Lopez about how Affleck feels about her documenting their romance in her upcoming This Is Me… Now album and companion film.

“I think, you know, he sees me as an artist, and he knows that I’m going to express myself, and he’s always just, he’s my biggest fan and my biggest supporter as I am of his, which I’m so glad to be here tonight,” Lopez gushed. “Because, you know, he’s nominated, and I’m so proud of him, and I love the movie (Air). I really think it was one of the best movies of the year, so I’m happy for him and Matt (Damon) who are both nominated.”
The footage sparked backlash on X after Variety shared a clip of the exchange, with many criticizing the interviewer’s awkward line of questioning.
“I know he’s been with Variety for forever but this man is such a horrible interviewer enough,” one fan wrote.
“This interview was so embarrassing and awkward — if I was J Lo I would have walked away,” a second person added.

“The questioning here was so cringe,” a third wrote, with a fourth slamming Malkin’s “awkward and rude questions.”
“I thought this was cringe to watch too,” one viewer piled on. “Why would you ask her that? She answered graciously, but not cool.”
Elsewhere, Lopez defended Affleck after a reporter from Entertainment Tonight asked her about the many memes made about his resting misery face.
“Ben is doing alright. You don’t need to worry about Ben, let me just tell you,” the actress replied when ET’s Kevin Frazier asked about her husband’s viral facial expressions. “He is good. He is happy. He is here — he is nominated. I’m chilling, I don’t understand what people are so pressed for.”
Lopez was married to singer Marc Anthony, with whom she shares two children, from 2004 to 2014. She was also briefly married to Ojani Noa and Cris Judd.

Affleck and Lopez started dating over 20 years ago after they met on the set of Gigli and they were engaged from 2002 to 2004. Dubbed “Bennifer,” the twosome’s romance was tabloid fodder highlighted by glitzy movie premieres and a 6.1 carat, pink diamond engagement ring. But the couple called off their wedding at the last-minute in 2003 and ended their relationship a few months later.
After their breakup, Lopez moved on with Anthony, with whom she had two children, while Affleck married Jennifer Garner and became a father to three. Both unions ended in divorce.
The former flames rekindled their old romance in 2021 after Lopez broke off her engagement with retired baseball slugger Alex Rodriguez.
Last month, Lopez told Variety “we both have PTSD” following the media scrutiny that followed their relationship the first time around, but she told the outlet that the passage of time convinced her that their renewed romance is built to last.

“We’re older now. We’re wiser. We also know what’s important, what’s really important in life, and it’s not so much what other people think. It’s about being true to who you are,” she said.
Dropping next month, This Is Me … Now is a sequel to Lopez’s 2002 album This Is Me … Then. The record will also be accompanied by a companion film of the same name being released onto Prime Video.
“You have to see it and you’ll have to experience it to understand it,” Lopez told Variety of the film. “That’s why I call it a ‘musical experience.’ Because there’s music, you can see it, you can hear it and then you’ll get to live it.”
