Geelong veteran Gary Rohan is suddenly facing an uncertain future after he was ruled out of his club’s VFL semi-final clash with Southport.
Rohan lasted less than a quarter of the game in his bid to return to the senior team that has just made it to the AFL preliminary finals.

The 33-year-old forward was in discomfort after copping an accidental elbow to the head, and was taken down to the rooms for an HIA (head injury assessment) test.
“Just a glancing elbow there to the side of the face,” 7NEWS sports reporter Andrew McCormack said.
“He went down in the rooms with the doc (and it was) pretty clear straight away that he failed that concussion test.
“He is still available to play in an AFL preliminary final in a couple of weeks, but somewhat concerning given he is just coming off a concussion from about six weeks ago.”
Expert commentator Libby Birch added: “You never like to see a player go down with concussion, let alone multiple concussions in a short period of time.
Birch also suggested it might be a struggle for Rohan to get back in the team with Geelong’s list “so healthy at the minute”.
Rohan will enter the 12-day concussion protocols, so he is still eligible to play in Geelong’s preliminary final.
But he won’t have another chance to impress selectors and may find it hard to get back in the team after its forwards turned it on against Port Adelaide in a dazzling qualifying final on Thursday.
Rohan’s contract also ends this season and it is unclear if that will be renewed.
If Geelong make it to the grand final, Rohan may need an injury and some luck if he is to be seen at AFL level again.
Geelong lost the VFL semi-final to Southport, 13.9 (87) to 7.16 (58).
In better news for the Cats, veterans Tom Hawkins and Cam Guthrie got through the game unscathed to put their hand up for an AFL return.
Hawkins — who has announced he is retiring at season’s end — kicked a goal and had 10 disposals in the match, while Guthrie had 19 touches in a solid day.
It was Hawkins’ first VFL game in 13 years and he started the game strongly with a big mark and goal.
However, he did little after that and it also remains unclear if the 359-game veteran will make it back to Geelong’s senior team.
While Hawkins has been a superstar for the Cats over many a year, he has only managed 12 games this season and 15 goals.
His 203cm, 22-year-old replacement, Shannon Neale, has looked impressive at AFL level, and kicked two goals and took nine marks in the final against Port on Thursday.
