There seems to be no end in sight for Collingwood’s rotten injury news and the club has just revealed that star midfielder Tom Mitchell has undergone surgery.

Mitchell, 31, hasn’t been seen since Round 7 and is now going to miss at the least the next 6-8 weeks.

It’s another major blow for Collingwood who are already dealing with a long and crippling injury list.

Brody Mihocek (hamstring — three weeks), Jamie Elliott (vascular — 6-8 weeks), Mason Cox (knee/concussion — 5-7 weeks), Joe Richards (foot — 3 weeks) and Dan McStay (knee — season) are also out of action, as are superstars Jordan De Goey (groin — three weeks), and Scott Pendlebury (bicep — three weeks).

Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring) and young key forward Reef McInnes (concussion) have also been sidelined but could return against Melbourne for the King’s Birthday game.

“Tom has undergone a minor procedure to address the plantar fasciitis he has been managing,” Collingwood’s high performance boss Jarrod Wade said.

“Following further consultation, surgery was the best option to help Tom regain full function in his foot.

“Tom will have a period of rest and recovery post-surgery before commencing a return to play program where we expect to see him return to the game in the back end of the season.”

The club said it would give an update on Mitchell’s return to play over the coming weeks.
