Cocktail of the week: Arcade Battersea ABC Bar’s Lucky 7 Manhattan – recipe | Cocktails

This is a domesticated, pocket-friendly take on a cocktail we serve at ABC Bar in Arcade Battersea, where we pride ourselves on our collection of rare, so-called “top-shelf” spirits. The original features two types of rye whiskey, two posh vermouths and a high-end sherry, but this version works out a lot cheaper. As with all cocktails, it’s best to use shop-bought ice cubes, because tap water often has more impurities and a higher mineral content, which can affect the flavour of a drink.

Lucky 7 Manhattan

65ml rye whiskeyLot No 40, for preference
25ml sweet red vermouth – something like Martini Riserva Speciale Rubino
5ml dry sherry
3 dashes Angostura bitters
, or Campari
1 maraschino cherry, or 1 bourbon-infused cherry, or 1 orange twist, to garnish

Measure the first three ingredients into a shaker or mixing glass, add the bitters, then fill with ice. Stir for 30-45 seconds, then double strain into a martini or coupe glass. Garnish with a maraschino- or bourbon-infused cherry, or with a twist of orange peel, and serve.
