Christina Aguilera Fans Are Convinced She Time Traveled for This Look—See the Video

Are you sure it’s not 2002? I could be convinced to believe in time travel after seeing Christina Aguilera’s latest video, given that the pop icon looks like she stepped right out of her Stripped era—and she even brought back the infamous blonde-and-black “Dirrty” hair.

In the video, Aguilera wears her waist-length, pin-straight platinum blonde hair pulled back tightly from her face, with much of her hair wrapped into a bold bow-like shape at the back of her head for an anime-inspired style. From there, some lengths have been pulled out at the center of the bow and in front of it, widing all the way down to the top of her hips. The best part of her hairstyle, however, are the black highlights woven throughout, similar to those worn by the singer more than 20 years ago; she frequently rocked a black-and-white streaked hairstyle around the time her second album Stripped dropped, and it’s a look so iconic, Kylie Jenner even paid homage to it for Halloween 2016.

On her face, Aguilera wore a handful of small gemstones across her eyelids and brows, placed strategically atop a gray smoky eye. Fans flooded her comments with praise for the look, saying it felt like Aguilera had “stepped out of a time machine” and asking how it was possible that we all traveled back to 2002, because Aguilera looks almost exactly like her twentysomething self.

Celebrity extensionist Priscilla Valles told Allure that the black-and-white striped hair was a semi-accident at the time. “She washed her hair and the black extensions bled onto the platinum extensions and they actually turned out gray,” she recounted. “I was freaking out.” According to Valles, Aguilera dried her hair and proclaimed it “dope,” and one of her signature looks was born — and now it’s back!
