The Kansas City Chiefs canceled practice on Thursday following a medical emergency with one of their players and some new details about the frightening incident have surfaced.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Chiefs defensive end BJ Thompson suffered a seizure and went into cardiac arrest during a team meeting on Thursday morning. The 25-year-old was in stable condition as of around midday on Thursday.
The Chiefs took Thompson in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Thompson played collegiate ball for Stephen F. Austin for four seasons after transferring from Baylor.
Thompson appeared in one game as a rookie for Kansas City last year and had two solo tackles.
The Chiefs said practice is expected to resume on Friday.
Some NFL teams began mandatory minicamp this week, but the Chiefs are still in the voluntary portion of their offseason program. They will hold mandatory minicamp from June 11-13.
