Charges laid after man found shot in both legs in bushland in West Wallsend, NSW

A man and woman have been charged after a man was found with gunshot wounds in both legs in bushland near Newcastle.

The 39-year-old victim allegedly met a 26-year-old man, who was known to him, at O’Donnelltown Rd, West Wallsend on Thursday evening.

Police were called to a shooting in the area about 5.30pm and arrived to find the 39-year-old with gunshot wounds to his legs.

Paramedics treated the man and took him to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Shortly after, two men, aged 23 and 33, were arrested at Holmesville and taken in for questioning but were later released.

About 7.15pm, the 26-year-old man and attended Toronto Police Station with a 48-year-old woman.

The pair was arrested and the man was charged with discharging a firearm intending to cause grievous bodily harm and possessing a loaded firearm in a public place.

The woman was charged with being an accessory after the fact to discharge a firearm intending to cause grievous bodily harm.

Both were refused police bail to face Toronto Local Court on Friday.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
