No one has more fun with their onstage looks than Chappell Roan, and 2024’s breakout pop superstar has channeled so many icons during her performances this summer, and each one has been better than the next. There was an ode to Divine with up-to-there eye shadow. Then she painted her body completely green as an homage to the Statue of Liberty, and then there was that Black Swan/White Swan look for a Tonight Show stop, complete with bleached brows and lots of feathers. Now, the Midwest Princess musician is going full coquettecore with a Marie Antoinette-inspired updo that was taller than the Eiffel Tower.
Roan went full Versailles for a Lollapalooza aftershow performance in Chicago with a towering light blonde updo similar to those made famous by the ill-fated 18th century queen. (Hairstylist Dom Forletta, who works closely with Roan, was behind the wig.) The majority of the hair was pulled up into a huge, fluffy cone shape, with small, tight ringlets pulled out around her face and a few escaping from the base.
Roan’s makeup was equally on-theme, with makeup artist Ali Scharf applying the star’s signature pure white face base and painting a pretty lilac purple shadow all over her lids, accented with lots of black eyeliner and spiky lashes. Two pale peach circles of blush were dotted right at the top of her cheekbones and blended upwards, just like they did it in the Versailles days, and her lips and nails were blood red and cherry red, respectively.
The wig also had a lot of fun onstage; as you can see on Roan’s TikTok below, it fell off almost immediately during her set—which may have been done with a wink or may have been an accident—but Roan rolled with it and let her red hair down instead, the lengths falling down her back accented by several white ribbons that matched her ornate, Antoinette-esque dress. She didn’t miss a beat! We gotta know: who will she transform into next?
