Cattle truck and four-wheel-drive in fatal crash on Newell Hwy in Peak Hill, NSW

One person has died in a cattle truck crash in NSW’s Central West on Monday, with a highway now closed in both directions.

The heavy vehicle, which was loaded with livestock, and a four-wheel-drive collided on Newell Hwy, about 10 kilometres north of O’Leary’s Ln, in Peak Hill just after 5pm.

“Emergency services are currently on the scene however one person is deceased,” NSW Police said in a statement.

The Newell Hwy is currently closed in both directions between Tomingley and Peak Hill.

Motorists have been told to avoid the area, as emergency services investigate.

Anyone with information should contact police.

A total of 160 people have been killed on NSW roads in 2024.
