The royals were seen driving in a Range Rover to the small church Crathie Kirk where they joined King Charles and Queen Camilla for the service.

Also present was Charles’ youngest brother Prince Edward and his wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh.

The princess has been making a gradual return to the public eye after undergoing an operation in January 2024 and confirming in March she had been diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer.

This comes despite sources close to the couple claiming it has been the “toughest year of their lives together,” as per Daily Mail’s Royal Editor Rebecca English.

The journalist said it was understood the chemotherapy will continue throughout and perhaps beyond the Northern Hemisphere summer, with the recovery after the treatment “ongoing for many months”.

At the moment the family is enjoying some downtime on holiday at Balmoral, but once the royals return to work in September, Kensington Palace is expected to provide guidance on what Kate’s workload may look like.

However, the insider has claimed that they are “not at that stage yet”.

“We are not there yet. When we last heard from her ahead of Trooping the Colour, she said her treatment was going on into the summer and that’s what’s happening,” the source said on August 15.

“It’s been a rough, rough time, a really difficult year for the entire family. And as she herself said, she is not out of the woods yet.

“The direction is positive (but) there will not be great change (in terms of her public profile) after Sunday night and no one is giving a timescale for her return.”

The latest appearance comes after Kate shared a personal update on her recovery in June 2024.

The mother of three said she was making good progress but was “not out of the woods”.

“I am making good progress but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days,” she wrote at the time.

The message was accompanied by a photo of Kate standing underneath a willow tree, looking up towards the sky.

In her message, Kate said she had been “blown away” by thousands of kind messages from across the globe, which had made a world of difference to her and William.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty. Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much-needed time to heal,” she said.

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”

The princess spent two weeks in hospital in January after she underwent major abdominal surgery.

Two months later, she announced in a video message that tests had revealed the presence of cancer and she was receiving preventative chemotherapy.

Her illness has coincided with that of her father-in-law King Charles, 75, who has also been undergoing treatment for cancer.

He returned to public duties in April, and has remained busy, although his daily commitments are being limited to minimise risks to his recovery.
