‘Canada’s Got Talent’ adds Shania Twain, ‘Law & Order Toronto’ renewed

Shania Twain will join Howie Mandel as one of the judges on Canada’s Got Talent when the reality show returns next year for its fourth season.

Rogers Sports and Media announced that the Canadian music superstar superstar will join Citytv’s hit competition series next spring, alongside Mandel and Kardinal Offishall and new judge, comic Katherine Ryan.

In its release, there was no mention as to whether last season’s judges Lilly Singh and Trish Stratus would be back. Calgary musician Lindsay Ell will continue on as host.

A big backer of Canadian talent, Twain said in a statement she’s excited to showcase performers from across the country when auditions start later this year for the country’s biggest talent contest.

“Canada! I’m really excited to discover the amazing talent you have to share,” the Man! I Feel Like A Woman! singer said. “Canada is well known for having high calibre creative people and it’s my honour to sit back and see you at your best. Let’s go my fellow Canadians!”

In a 2020 interview with Postmedia, Twain said her Canadian upbringing helped her land on a musical sound that resonated with worldwide audiences when she was starting out over 30 years ago.

“I don’t think anybody growing up when I did in Canada saw country the way the U.S. saw country music. To me, folk was in there, bluegrass was in there, a lot of pop was in there. In Canada, it just seemed that what was country was a broader spectrum of styles. So, my music ended up being an eclectic mix. There was a bit of pop, a bit of rock, some bluegrass, a little folk; that was my kind of country,” she said.

“When I went to Nashville with this hybrid sound, they weren’t even sure it was country. But my thing was, ‘This is how I hear country music.’”

In addition to announcing Twain’s addition to Canada’s Got Talent, Rogers revealed it is bringing back Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent for two more seasons, with filming commencing next month.

Stars Aden Young (Detective Sergeant Henry Graff), Kathleen Munroe (Detective Sergeant Frankie Bateman), Karen Robinson (Inspector Vivienne Holness), and K.C. Collins (Deputy Crown Attorney Theo Forrester) are all set to return alongside series developer and showrunner Tassie Cameron.
