Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 publisher Activision has announced plans to release the mid-season update for Season 3. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Season 3 Reloaded has a May 1 release date on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC. Available in MW 3, Warzone and Zombies, Season 3 Reloaded content will be available alongside a big new update at 5pm BST UK time. The mid-season refresh introduces a ton of new content, including a variety of core multiplayer maps, as well as new game modes, weapons and lots more. Perhaps most exciting of all are the release of the new multiplayer maps, including Grime, which is a 6-vs-6 medium sized map available in core game modes. That’s on top of the Checkpoint map, which is based on the Stronghold area of Rebirth Island.
Grime is arguably the most enticing of the two, taking place in an abandoned corner of London.
The dockside district features a graffiti-laden SKN Comms building, which is next to the remnants of the Captain’s Dog pub and a now-defunct boat house.
Players will be able to swim through the canal and battle along the docks, making use of the map’s chokepoints.
The launch of the new maps will be accompanied by two new game modes titled Minefield and Escort.
Minefield is actually playable alongside a number of existing game modes. In addition to existing rules, downed Operators will drop a proximity mine wherever they fall.
The explosive mine won’t just damage the opposition, but also the downed Operator’s teammates, making it more beneficial to go alone.
Elsewhere, Escort sees teams take turns escorting a MAW through the environment. Along the way, players will need to hack three points across the map. Needless to say, the MAW will only move forward when an attacking player is nearby, and will move backwards when the opposition has control.
New Field Upgrades include the Enhanced Vision Goggles, which provide improved target acquisition in the midst of battle.
That’s on top of the EMD Mine, which is a proximity-triggered mine that sticks to surfaces and fires tracking devices that attach to nearby Operators.
Then there’s the new BAL-27 Assault Rifle, which is unlockable via a new sector in the Call of Duty Battle Pass.
The BAL-27 is said to offer “quick reloads and a unique firing mechanism”. Indeed, the first four shots favour accuracy, while the final shots will finish the job.
