Call of Duty fans are counting down to the start of the new season in Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone. Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 Season 2 has a February 7 release date and a 5pm GMT launch time for fans living in the UK. The new Modern Warfare 3 season adds a grand total of four new 6-v-6 maps, as well as a couple of variants, new game modes and a brand new Battle Pass containing some Walking Dead rewards.
One of the biggest content drops since Call of Duty moved to a seasonal model, the four new maps include Departures, Stash House and Vista at launch, as well as Das Haus in the mid-season update.
The Departures map takes place within the lounge of the Zakhaev International Airport. It’s described as a “clean and competitive 6v6 map with areas for all ranges of combat”.
Stash House, meanwhile, is a compact map with chaotic action set in a recently raided Bay Area stash house.
Players can take cover behind stashes of money, all the while fighting within a kitchen, outdoor bar and hot tub. Activision describes it as the perfect map to grind XP.
Finally, Vista is a medium-sized core map taking place in a Brazilian mountaintop resort with gift shops, restaurants, and trams.
You can take a look at the new maps in the Modern Warfare 3 Season 2 trailer below.
In addition to new maps, players will be able to battle it out in two variations of existing maps – albeit not until the mid-season update.
Terminal, for example, is given a dark makeover and renamed Airborne. Activision explains more: “A virulent plague of unknown origin has swept through Terminal, coating almost every surface with disgusting, pustule-pulsing growths of alien origin!
“All flights are grounded as swarms of locusts fill the skies, the interior of the parked plane is thick with ooze dripping from the fuselage, and the periodic cockroach invasion at Burger Town indicates this place needs much more than a fumigation.”
The Skidrow map will also be tweaked, with plant life taking over to the point it will be renamed Skidgrow.
Elsewhere, fans will be pleased to hear that Season 2 is adding a huge new War map, titled Operation Tin Man.
“War Mode receives a new, large-scale operation that takes place in downtown Urzikstan,” reads the official description.
“Expect an airdrop as your team skydives down to the roof of a skyscraper, navigating the multi-level construction sight reminiscent of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3’s 2011 Overwatch map.
“One team defends and protects this structure while the other activates controls, planting explosives to clear a path downward.”
Three new game modes are also coming at launch, including Team Gun Game, Snipers Only, and the Zombie-themed Hordepoint, which adds the undead into the mix.
The zombie theme ties into the Season 2 Battle Pass, which is headlined by The Walking Dead’s Rick Grimes.
“He’s joined by Station Chief Kate Laswell, while BlackCell owners also receive the anonymous but infamous undead BlackCell Operator John Doe,” Activision continues.
“The Battle Pass comes packed with a variety of unlockable content, with Skins for Soap, Alpine, Farah, Valeria, Price, Warden, and Riptide, and multiple Skins for Ghost. Expect a deep dive into all the Skins, Weapons, Blueprints, and other items to unlock in a showcase blog prior to Season 2 launch.”
