Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt submitted a petition in Los Angeles County Superior Court on May 27 to change her name to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie, the Los Angeles Times reported last week.
Shiloh, who performs as a voice actor in the film Kung Fu Panda 3, is the first of the siblings to file a petition for a legal name change, but some of Pitt’s other children have dropped public use of their father’s last name in recent years, the Times reported.
“He’s aware and upset that Shiloh dropped his last name. He’s never felt more joy than when she was born. He always wanted a daughter,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“The reminders that he’s lost his children, is of course not easy for Brad. He loves his children and misses them. It’s very sad,” the insider adds.

Pitt is “happy” with his new girlfriend, Ines De Ramon, the source continues, but the fact that he no longer has a close relationship with his kids “pains him.”
“He still loves all of his kids tremendously,” another source close to Pitt tells the outlet. “This whole process has been very hard for the whole family.”

According to Fox News digital, Shiloh hired her own lawyer to facilitate the name change and paid for it with her own money. The website reports that the decision to remove Pitt from her last name is connected to his alleged “abuse history.”
When Pitt, 60, was married to his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, 49, the Maleficent star alleged he was verbally and physically abusive with their children — Maddox, 22; Pax, 20; Zahara, 19; Shiloh, 18; and 15-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne — including an incident on a private plane involving their eldest child in 2016.

In court documents that emerged in 2022 as the two battled over their French winery, Jolie accused Pitt of choking one child and striking another. “At one point, he poured beer on Jolie; at another, he poured beer and red wine on the children,” the docs alleged.
A few days after the flight, Jolie filed for divorce. Her attorney said her kids were “traumatized” and the split was “for the health of the family.” Pitt was investigated for alleged child abuse over the plane incident, but authorities elected not to pursue charges.
Pitt’s rep told CNN in 2022 that Jolie’s abuse claims were “completely untrue.”
“(Jolie’s) story continues to evolve each time she tells it with new, unsubstantiated claims,” the rep’s statement read. “Brad has accepted responsibility for what he did but will not for things he didn’t do. These new allegations are completely untrue.”

Last year, Pitt’s adopted son Pax called him a “world class a**hole” and alleged that his kids “tremble in fear” when they are around him.
“Happy Father’s Day to this world class a**hole!! You time and time again prove yourself to be a terrible and despicable person,” Pax, who Jolie adopted from Vietnam in 2007, began the message, which the Daily Mail published online.
“You have no consideration or empathy toward your 4 youngest children who tremble in fear when in your presence,” Pax reportedly continued.
“You have made the lives of those closest to me a constant hell,” he added, according to the Mail. “You may tell yourself and the world whatever you want, but the truth will come to light someday.
“So, Happy Father’s Day, you f***ing awful human being!!!”

The message was written alongside an image of Pitt accepting his Academy Award for his work on 2019’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood.
Pitt reportedly also does not have a connection with his eldest son Maddox, with a source telling Us Weekly in 2020: “That relationship continues to be non-existent.”
Maddox also testified against Pitt during the exes’ custody battle.
“It wasn’t very flattering toward Brad,” an insider exclusively told Us Weekly the following year. “He doesn’t use Pitt as his last name on documents that aren’t legal and instead uses Jolie. Maddox wants to legally change his last name to Jolie, which Angelina has said she doesn’t support.”
Pitt’s adopted daughter, Zahara, also has a strained relationship with her dad and introduced herself to her sorority without her dad’s last name.

In a video shared by Essence last year, the student referred to herself as “Zahara Marley Jolie.”
And last month, his daughter Vivienne appeared to have dropped the “Pitt” from her last name as well.
In the Playbill for the Broadway musical The Outsiders, which Vivienne helped her mom produce, PEOPLE confirmed the 15-year-old is listed as “Vivienne Jolie” instead of “Vivienne Jolie-Pitt.”
As Pitt continues to battle Jolie in court over her decision to sell her stake in their Chateau Miraval winery, the Bullet Train star has found happiness again with jewelry designer De Ramon.
“Being with her has brought new meaning to his life. Brad can’t rave enough about how madly in love he is,” a source told Us Weekly last month. “They complement each other.”
