A 16-year-old boy was hospitalized after a bullet grazed his head during a shooting in the parking lot of a Scarborough high school on Monday morning, prompting as many as six area school lockdowns.

Toronto Police said the Grade 12 student was struck in the head during shooting at Agincourt Collegiate Institute, near Midland and Lockie Aves., at about 11:50 a.m.

“It’s my understanding it was a grazing injury,” Insp. Rich Harris told reporters.

The victim was sent to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

Police said the incident appeared to have been targeted.

“It’s quite concerning that it was so early on in the school year,” Harris told reporters. “Based on limited evidence available it appears that the parties involved may have known each other, but I can’t speak to the motive.”

“The entire parking lot is now deemed a crime scene,” he added.

Police said the suspect is described as a Black male, 17 to 18 years old. He was wearing a blue Nike sweater with multiple zippers and dark pants. He is about 6 feet tall, with a slim build and should be considered “armed and dangerous,” police said.

He was last seen fleeing on foot.

Agincourt is a neighbourhood in northeast Toronto, along Sheppard Ave. — between Kennedy and Markham Rds.
