Boy, 15, man, 21, charged for downtown Hamilton shooting

A 15-year-old boy and a 21-year-old man have been charged following a daylight shooting near a transit terminal in downtown Hamilton last month.

Hamilton Police said the shooting happened on June 28 at about 11 a.m. at the intersection of King and McNab Sts. near the Frank A. Cooke Transit Terminal.

Police said the victim was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigators with the Hamilton Police Shooting Response Team have taken over the investigation and made two arrests.

Police said due to the young age of one suspect, cops cannot disclose their identity as per the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

Police believe this shooting was targeted and was related to a dispute between the individuals involved.

The 15-year-old was charged with discharge firearm with intent, aggravated assault with a weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm contrary to order, and fail to comply – probation order.

The 21-year-old was charged with possession of Fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of Hydromorphone for the purpose of trafficking, and proceeds of crime over $5,000.

The investigation is ongoing.
