Body found in search for rugby legend Scott Hastings’ wife, Jenny, after she disappeared in swimming event

A body has been found in the search for Jenny Hastings, the wife of rugby legend, Scott Hastings, who went missing in a swimming event in Scotland.

Jenny, 60, has not been seen since the Firth of Forth group swim in Wardie Bay, Edinburgh, on Tuesday afternoon (local time).

Scott Hastings is a famous rugby union player who represented Scotland and the British Lions in the late 1980s and 90s. He is also a popular sports commentator in Scotland.

After Jenny disappeared, a huge search by air and boat was launched before being stood down.

On Saturday, a body was found in the Hound Pond area of South Queensferry, near Edinburgh.

“Formal identification is yet to take place but the family of missing woman Jenny Hastings has been informed,” local police said in a statement.

“There do not appear to be any suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The Hastings family earlier released a statement attributed to “Scott, Corey, Daniel, Kerry-Anne & Ian”.

The statement said Jenny was now considered by police as a “high risk missing person case”.

“As many of you know Jenny struggled with her mental health for a number of years and ultimately she was unable to cope on this occasion,” the statement said.

“She swam out into the Firth of Forth from Wardie Bay in Edinburgh and it appears that she wished to end her suffering in what was a regular and healing place for her.

“She loved the water but unfortunately her mind was not in a place of safety.

“The Hastings family are absolutely heartbroken.

“Jenny and Scott have a huge following of friends from all walks of life including those that work in the media and we ask that at this moment in time we are allowed to grieve privately with family members.

“For the time being we request that you hold off from messaging us directly and/or posting on any social media until further news.

“We know that you all care for us deeply and as soon as we hear any update from the police we will advise you accordingly.”
