He had injuries to his ankles, Superintendent Christine McDonald said on Monday afternoon.
“Him jumping from that location is a possibility and it is a line of inquiry,” McDonald said.
CCTV footage obtained by police showed a woman walking into a unit at the Burwood building complex, and her body was later located.
The woman had suffered stab wounds, police said.
A weapon has been located by police.
Police are still investigating whether the woman lived there.
Two crime scenes have been established and an investigation has been launched.
The pair is yet to be formally identified, though both are Asian and aged in their 20s or 30s.
It is not yet known if the man and woman are known to each other.
“Violence against any person is not, and will not be, tolerated,” McDonald said.
McDonald could not confirm whether the matter was a domestic-violence related incident.
She was not aware of police visiting the unit before.
