Bill Maher ripped for believing Gavin Newsom would make good president

A celebrity fitness trainer lit into TV talker Bill Maher after he suggested California Gov. Gavin Newsom would make a good choice for president.

Jillian Michaels reacted angrily on Maher’s Club Random podcast after the host said he’d been trying to convince 56-year-old Newsom to run for president. Michaels told Maher she’d been “forced” to relocate from California to Florida because of Newsom’s policies and the state’s rampant crime.

“My house got broken into,” Michaels told Maher. “Guess who let the guy out during COVID. Newsom.

“It was the guy’s third offence. He broke into our house (with) duct tape and a video camera. I mean give me a f—ing break. Third strike, guy goes to jail, gets let out during COVID.”

Michaels continued by telling Maher her home in Malibu had been damaged by wildfires in the area in 2018, which were blamed on Pacific Gas and Electric. The company was declared “safe” by Newsom’s government, but later had to pay out $55 million US for it’s role in the fires.

“You’re going to decriminalize everything, but regulate nothing,” Michaels added. “You’re going to prioritize the craziest s— I’ve ever seen in my life.”

But despite Michaels’ protestations, Maher doubled down and said Newsom would win if he ran for president.

“My thing with Gavin is, first of all, he can win,” Maher said. “First of all, I like him. He’s really smart. Is he a politician? Yes. Is he slick? Good, slick people win elections. (Bill) Clinton was slick, (Barack) Obama was pretty slick.”

Michaels then pointed out Newsom’s handling of COVID in California, saying schools were strictly closed and the use of masks were mandated. Newsom was often seen in public without a mask, Michaels suggested.

“He’s a hypocrite and that bothers me,” Michaels fumed. “The rules were absurd. He didn’t follow his own rules. If you’re going to lead, you lead by example.”

Newsweek reported last week that 250,000 people have left the Bay Area in California since 2020, in part due to a surge in homelessness and drug overdoses.
