Biden’s global confidence ratings higher than Trump’s: Poll

(NewsNation) — A new Pew Research Center poll found that countries worldwide have greater confidence in President Joe Biden “to do the right thing regarding world affairs” than in former President Donald Trump.

The polling, which involved 34 countries, revealed that 43% of survey respondents are confident in Biden’s approach to handling business compared to 28% for Trump.

People had a more positive assessment of Biden than Trump in 24 countries, with Biden’s confidence rating at least 40 percentage points higher in Germany, the Netherlands, Poland and Sweden. While Trump led in Hungary and Tunisia, the leaders were tied in eight other countries.

Biden’s confidence rating comes as fewer people have faith in the U.S. The poll found that 54% of the 34 countries polled have “positive” views of the U.S. A median of 4 in 10 across the 34 countries say the “U.S. democracy used to be a good example” for other countries to follow.

Meanwhile, of the five leaders included in the survey, French President Emmanuel Macron had the highest level of confidence, just 1 percentage point ahead of Biden, while Russian President Vladimir Putin received the lowest, with 21% confidence.

The level of confidence in Trump was only four percentage points higher across the 34 countries than it was for Chinese President Xi Jinping.
