Beyoncé does not appear at Democratic National Convention

(The Hill) — Beyoncé did not perform on the final night of the Democratic National Convention, as Vice President Kamala Harris accepted her party’s presidential nomination.

“Beyoncé was never scheduled to be there,” the Grammy-winning star’s rep told The Hollywood Reporter. “The report of a performance is untrue.”

The Hill, citing two sources, incorrectly reported that the music superstar would perform. One of the sources had reported seeing Beyoncé in Chicago.

Instead, the convention concluded as expected with Harris, whose speech was preceded by a video. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper was the final speaker ahead of Harris.

A frenzy had developed over the possibility that Beyoncé, Taylor Swift or some other surprise guest would show up at the United Center for the convention.

Security guards at the United Center by Thursday evening were chatting about the certainty the superstar would show up.

So were delegates, though they were not as sure.

Oregon delegate Stephanie Newton-Azorr, who was on the floor as the event kicked off, said she heard the rumors and predicted that if Beyoncé were to perform, she would sing “Freedom,” which is also the theme song of Harris’ campaign.

“I know she can also mobilize her fan base and help turn out the vote,” Newton-Azorr said. “People listen to Beyoncé. They listen when she speaks.’”
