“Pastels only to honor the incredible @matthewbourne13 at the @ctgla gala last night with this fella @adamshankman!!” McCarthy wrote in the caption. “Thiiiiis much closer to my dream of dancing on stage.”
“Melissa you just keep getting more gorgeous,” one fan said cheering on the pics, while another added, “You look amazing! Congrats on your weight loss.”

The remark had many wondering if “poor Babs” intended to send McCarthy a private message.
“I feel like this was meant to be a (direct message),” one follower wrote. “Does Babs know that we can all see that?” another person asked. “Babs giving major boomer energy here,” a third joked.
“Barbra! You can’t just ask people if they take ozempic!” another person chided, with a fifth adding, “Barbara you’re a songwriter. You are good with words. Do better.”

Meanwhile, McCarthy’s other celebrity pals showered her with compliments. “These lewks are yummy,” Octavia Spencer declared, while Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay called her mint-green dress, “Gorgeous.”
Streisand later took to X to apologize for the flub. “OMG – I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy, who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!”

McCarthy and Streisand worked together on the song Anything You Can Do on her 2016 album Encore.
In an interview last year with Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy told the publication that Streisand is “really funny” and recalled what their first meeting was like.
“I think when she opened the door she had leggings on and lunch meat in her hand. And I was like, none of this is what I expected,” McCarthy said.
But she said Streisand was down to earth when they first got together.
“When someone who you think you should be curtsying to keeps eating lunch meat, it really kind of levels the playing field. It was really charming. I was like, ‘You’re really pounding lunch meat.’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’”
McCarthy’s weight has been up and down over the years. But in 2018 she told Life & Style that she lost 75 pounds by consistently exercising and eating a high-protein and low-carb diet. “It may be the best thing I’ve ever done,” she said.
In 2023 she told PEOPLE that she’s happy with the way she looks.
“Somewhere in my 30s, I was like ‘I’m OK with who I am.’ And if someone wasn’t thrilled with that, that’s OK too,” she explained. “At some point I was like, ‘They’re not all going to like you.’ You have to learn that the hard way, but it’s a good (lesson).”
