Australia Post cutoffs for parcels to arrive in time for Christmas loom this week

Australians who want their loved ones to receive their gifts before Christmas have less than 24 hours to send their parcels before the official cut-off.

Items posted to and from metro locations in every state except for WA and the NT need to be sent by end of business on Monday to get to their intended recipient, located within Australia, in time for Christmas.

For WA and the NT, this date has already passed.

The Monday cut-off date also includes cards and letters sent to and from metro locations within the state.

However for those who like to leave their Christmas shopping to the last minute, or who have procrastinated about going to the post office, items can still be sent by end of business on Wednesday (for WA and NT) or Thursday via express shipping.

This will cost more than regular shipping with the price dependent on the size of the parcel.

Parcels up to 5kg are eligible for flat rate postage options to anywhere within Australia, with the price ranging from $10.60 for a small parcel to $29.95 for extra large express post.

Postage for Christmas cards sent within Australia costs 65 cents during November and December.

Australia Post delivered 52 million parcels last December.
