Aussie Shane O’Neill forced to wait as skateboarding event postponed at Olympics

Australian skateboarder Shane O’Neill will need to wait another two days to get his Olympic campaign underway after the men’s street event was postponed two days until Monday.

The event had been scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon at Place de la Concorde, near where the Olympic cauldron was lit at the conclusion on Friday night’s opening ceremony.

The slippery conditions caused by the wet weather which has hit the French capital in the past two days was the reason for the postponement.

Games organisers were to issue an update on the rescheduling later on Saturday.

It means there will now be 13 gold medals decided on day one of the Paris Olympics.

McNeill, 34, made his Olympic debut in Tokyo three years ago and did not qualify for the final.

He won the street world championship in 2016.
