Who is Augustinus Bader and what is The Rich Cream?
Augustinus Bader is a German skin professor who launched his eponymous skincare line in 2018 with just two products — The Cream and The Rich Cream.
Now boasting a roster of 17 skin-smoothing, radiance-boosting and anti-ageing formulas, the range comprises everything from eye creams to cleansers, body creams and — of course — the moisturisers.
The secret to Augustinus Bader’s success is its TFC8 formula.
TFC8 is the brand’s patented and formulated technology backed by more than 30 years of research.
Comprised of natural amino acids, high-grade vitamins and synthesised molecules naturally found in the body, TFC8 nourishes and protects the skin while taking a personalised approach to supporting the skin’s innate potential for renewal.
All of this comes at a cost — one single bottle of The Rich Cream which contains TFC8 will set you back $454 if you want 50mL.
So what’s so good about the moisturiser apart from its cutting-edge science?
A rich, thick, and textured luxury moisturiser with an emollient feel, on the Augustinus Bader website it is described as “ideal for normal to dry skin, more mature skin types, and colder, drier climates”.
The Rich Cream promises to “deeply hydrate, condition, and renew for soft, even, restored skin”, supporting skin barrier function, and preventing transepidermal water loss — giving you skin that is supple, plump, and smooth.
After extensive clinical trials detailed on the Augustinus Bader website, 100 per cent of testers agreed that skin feels instantly hydrated and nourished.
And 99 per cent said their skin looks and feels more balanced.
An impressive 97 per cent agree skin’s tone and texture looks dramatically transformed — all of which very much sounds like a miracle in a bottle.
So how did I get on?
What was my experience with The Rich Cream?
I don’t think I’ve ever seen results from a moisturiser like this — and I am already raring to buy my second bottle.
Naturally, my skin is dry and tending to dehydrated.
But thanks to this moisturiser, it’s smooth, supple and any early fine lines I have seem almost instantly lessened.
I like applying it in the morning underneath SPF and makeup and find you hardly need to use serums alongside it.
And I also love using it at night when I want to give my skin a deep refreshing drink.
According to Augustinus Bader himself, when it comes to application you need clean, dry and freshly-washed skin.
He recommends applying it in upward sweeping motions, massaging the cream along your jawline and sweeping from your nose to your ears and across your forehead and massage cream over the cheeks to your temples.
You can also apply it to your neck and should take roughly 45 seconds to one minute on application.
I road tested a 50mL bottle of The Rich Cream, which costs $454, but you can also buy smaller bottles.
A 30mL bottle will set you back $282, and if you want to merely dip your toes in the waters of Augustinus Bader, you can buy a mini 15mL for $145.
True converts will love the new 100mL bottle — which costs $817.
I found the bottle lasted me a long time — at least three months of morning and nightly use — and it was worth its weight in gold in terms of results.
A week in to using the moisturiser, my skin felt more glowy and hydrated.
A month down the track, I almost felt as though I hardly needed to use any other serums and creams — such was the power of the moisturiser.
And three months later, it is safe to say it is now a mainstay in my regime.
Is Augustinus Bader’s The Rich Cream worth it?
It’s safe to say that Augustinus Bader’s skincare does indeed live up to the hype.
After three months of rigourous testing, my skin is smoother, it appears more hydrated and I generally feel like my overall texture is more blemish-free and smooth.
Of course, it is expensive to buy any of the products.
But I would argue that it’s one hundred per cent worth it.
This is backed up by the fact that it lasts months and will almost replace other serums and moisturisers in your regime.
