Two people have been killed after a home in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs went up in flames, as an arson investigation begins.
Fire crews were called to a Donvale home, about 20km east of Melbourne’s CBD, at about 3.46am on Saturday, after reports that a house was on fire.
Firefighters arrived to find a multilevel brick and steel-constructed home fully engulfed in flames.
“Crews aggressively attacked the fire,” a Fire Rescue Victoria spokesperson said.
“The home has been destroyed by fire and the roof has collapsed.”
The fire was deemed under control just after 4.30am.
“Sadly, two bodies were found inside the property once the fire was extinguished,” a Victoria police spokesperson said.
Arson and explosives squad detectives, along with an arson chemist, were expected to attend the house on Saturday morning after a crime scene was established.
Anyone who witnessed the fire or has any information has been urged to contact CrimeStoppers.
