Australian superstar Ariarne Titmus has pipped Mollie O’Callaghan in the 200m freestyle final at the Olympic trials with both swimmers smashing the previous world record.
Titmus clocked 1:52.23 seconds in Wednesday night’s final, bettering O’Callaghan’s previous benchmark of 1:52.85 from last year’s world championships.
O’Callaghan also broke her previous record to finish second in 1:52.48 — the second-fastest time in history.

Titmus now holds the world record in both the 200m and 400m freestyle.

“Looking at the results, it’s unbelievable. I’m really happy to finally produce a swim in the 200m that I feel like my training reflects,” Titmus said.
“I think just the field that we have is why we are swimming so fast. We push each other every day.”
The Aussies are primed for gold and silver in next month’s Paris Olympics.
“We push each other to do the best of our limits,” O’Callaghan said.
“Like what Arnie just said. And the other girls in this relay.”
