(WTAJ) – “Bill & Ted” have been “most excellent” across three installments of a film franchise that has spanned over 30 years. But their journey might not be through just yet.
Alex Winter, who played Bill in the time-travel trilogy, claims the creative team behind the films is already developing an idea for another sequel.
“The gang, we’re tinkering with another, with a fourth movie idea that all of us like, and the guys are gonna write,” Winters said in an interview with The Sarah O’Connell Show on YouTube. “So we’ll see.”
During the interview, Winters hinted that the concept of the film was “obvious,” but he didn’t want to give it away.
“Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure,” released in 1989, was followed by a sequel in 1991, called “Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey.” The third installment, “Bill & Ted Face the Music,” came almost 30 years later, though it had been teased for years before its eventual release.
The third film reunited Winters with Keanu Reaves (the titular “Ted”), but introduced their characters’ daughters, played by Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine. Although released during the COVID-19 pandemic, “Face the Music” was well received, earning a “certified fresh” status on Rotten Tomatoes.
A possible fourth film, Winters said, will only be made unless everyone involved feels it would be the “right” thing to do.
“We love [Bill & Ted] because they’re oddball and they’re not typical mainstream films,” Winters said during the interview. “They’ve never been cash-grab movies, nobody has gotten rich off the Bill & Ted series. We really do make them sincerely from a place of love and interest.”
