Bedford has been slapped with a three-match ban for his tackle that left Taranto concussed, but the Giants have already announced they will challenge the suspension at the tribunal.
The incident quickly divided the AFL world with many commentators sympathising with Bedford.
Bedford came from behind and pinned both arms with momentum carrying the pair forward when Taranto’s head slammed into the turf.
The umpire didn’t pay a free kick at the time.
“It’s a tackle we’ve seen so many times before, that forward motion and it lands in a severe case because there’s a concussion,” Geelong great Joel Selwood said on Channel 7.
“So we think about heading into a prelim final weekend. If that was to miss a grand final, I don’t think it sits well with any football lover.”
Western Bulldogs champion Luke Darcy added: “I understand where we are heading with the game but for 160 years we have tackled in that way and I don’t think there is anything malicious with what Toby Bedford has done.”
“We are asking a lot of the current player to apply a tackle but be gentle at the end. I understand we are super conscious of protecting the head but at times it is a challenging game to play at the moment for those reasons.
“If Toby Bedford doesn’t apply tackles then he doesn’t get a game. It is a delicate balance we tread at the moment.”
Cameron has copped the same ban for a tackle that left West Coast co-captain Liam Duggan concussed.
Cameron met Duggan front on and drove him backwards into the ground with the Eagle’s head hitting the turf hard.
Both incidents were graded careless, severe impact and high contact.
Earlier this year, Cameron overturned a one-match ban at the AFL Tribunal for a dumping tackle on Melbourne’s Jake Lever due to what has since been dubbed the “good guy’‘ defence.
The Lions have until Tuesday morning to decide whether to appeal Cameron’s latest ban at the AFL tribunal.
After Brisbane’s win over West Coast, Lions coach Chris Fagan questioned the notion that players generally receive a suspension if their opponents end up concussed.
“It would be sad if it comes to that … accidents happen,” Fagan said.
Meanwhile, Davies also copped a three-match ban for his head-high bump that concussed Lachie Jones.
Jones had his head over the ball when Davies charged in and collected the Power player high.
The bump was also graded as careless, severe impact and high contact.
Rosas was given a one-match ban for his off-the-ball strike on Port Adelaide defender Logan Evans.
The incident was graded as intentional, low impact and high contact.
