A bizarre detail in actress Emily Blunt’s Oscars dress has set tongues wagging on social media.

The Hollywood star was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Oppenheimer at the 2024 Academy Awards.

When the camera panned to Blunt during the presentation of the Best Supporting Actress gong, viewers saw that the frock’s “structural shoulder” had raised up considerably, creating a bizarre optical illusion.

One X user noted that it made the straps on her dress look like the handles of a ladder that you’d likely see on the side of a public pool.

“How I picture the back of Emily’s dress,” the user said, alongside a photo of a pool ladder.

Another wrote: “Are the straps of Emily Blunt’s dress supposed to sit like that?”

A third said: “Emily Blunt’s straps. Yikes.”

Others noted that the sequins on the front of her front appear to create the shape of a pair of undies.

“I love Emily Blunt. But why does she have Y-Fronts stencilled on her dress?” another X user asked.
