Following the critically acclaimed success of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s A Quiet Place and its follow-up comes a prequel set on the day the aliens invaded.
Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Alex Wolff and Djimon Hounsou star in A Quiet Place: Day One, as the blind but sound-sensitive “Death Angels” land in New York City.
The reviews for the apocalyptic horror are in and they’re largely just as glowing as those for the first two movies.
As it stands A Quiet Place: Day One has 88 per cent positive reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.
Check out review highlights from the top critics below.
Empire
A solid A Quiet Place entry is elevated by Lupita Nyong’o and Joseph Quinn’s affecting performances — a surprisingly tender tale of the end of days.
The Times
The unpromising third instalment in a franchise that was already exhausted by Part II turns out to be the best Quiet Place yet. It’s original and inventive, yes, but thoughtful too.
Daily Telegraph
The film about as bold and innovative as a third franchise entry can be, which may not be desperately, but is more than enough to keep viewers’ hearts at constant throat altitude.
Entertainment Weekly
This isn’t uncharted ground, but it’s a rich vein for a good filmmaker to tap into. And Sarnoski does this in ways that feel earned, not exploitative.
Independent
It’s not scary anymore, but it’s stressful in the way that makes you dig your nails into your palm.
Hollywood Reporter
It’s not often we get a post-apocalyptic saga that remains so personal, so in touch with human loss as something not just forgotten in the next jump scare but given room to linger…
Total Film
Like the previous two films, this finds the right balance between nerve-racking action and thoughtful character-building scenes. Day One is refreshing, too: Sam is in many ways an unusual hero for a mainstream thriller.
The Guardian
It’s an efficient, if familiar, spectacle of suspense.
A Quiet Place: Day One is out now in cinemas.
