Child lucky to be alive after car crushed in NSW truck crash

A toddler is lucky to be alive after the car they were a passenger in crashed into a truck in NSW’s Riverina region.

The utility left Canola Way, Coolamon and crashed into a stationary prime mover with a trailer attached about 3.15pm Tuesday, police said.

Paramedics treated the 27-year-old female driver for shock and her two-year-old passenger for a cut to the head.

Both were taken to Wagga Wagga Base Hospital.

An image of the wreckage shows the child’s car seat intact, despite the car being crushed.

Police said the crash highlighted the importance of child car seats being secured and children appropriately fastened, as was the case in this crash.

The driver underwent a roadside breath test and returned a negative result.

The male truck driver was not injured.
