PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KTLA) — Eduardo Xol of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” has passed away.
The 58-year-old died on Friday from injuries he sustained 10 days earlier in Palm Springs, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. Xol passed away at Desert Regional Medical Center, the Desert Sun reports.
Further inquiries into the case were referred to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Xol’s exact cause of death and the cause of the injuries were not revealed by the department. The agency reported the time of the injury as 5:41 a.m. on Sept. 10.
On that same date and time, the Palm Springs Police Department responded to a call from a male victim in the 400 block of East Arenas Road who requested help but was unable to provide specific details, according to a news release.
When officers arrived on the scene, “they heard a male voice inside the residence in apparent distress.”
After entering the residence, they found a male victim suffering from “significant injuries consistent with an assault.” The victim told police he was stabbed but did not identify his attacker. He was then taken to a local hospital, where he was listed in “serious but stable condition.”
Later that morning, police dispatch got a call from a man at the 100 block of North Sunrise Way, who said he was “assaulted the previous night.”
Officers responded and identified the caller as Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, a resident of Cathedral City. Upon investigation, “officers determined that Gonzales was the suspect in the earlier stabbing incident.”
Gonzales was arrested for attempted murder and booked into a detention center.
Xol’s family issued the following statement to The Hollywood Reporter:
“We are heartbroken at the tragic loss of our beloved Eduardo Xol. We know that his kindness has touched the lives of so many. We ask for that kindness [to be] returned now [by] allowing our privacy to be respected as we process our grief. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made in Eduardo’s name to the Lupus Foundation of America as he spent so much of his life in the service of others.”
The Los Angeles native was an actor, singer, television personality, social activist and businessman. He gained fame as a designer on ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”
