MANILA, Philippines—Veteran big man Japeth Aguilar didn’t sugarcoat when he described the vibe inside Barangay Ginebra’s locker room after Sunday’s demoralizing loss.
The Gin Kings suffered their worst beating in franchise history–a 131-82 thrashing at the hands of the San Miguel in Group B of the PBA Governors’ Cup on the same night Beermen swingman Marcio Lassiter made history by setting the all-time 3-point mark.

“He was really pissed,” said Aguilar, pertaining to coach Tim Cone.
“We’re all pissed though but it’s good that we encountered this type of loss so we just have to be ready for the next game,” he added.

Ginebra started slow and paid for it dearly as it faced an early 37-13 deficit and never recovered.

“We were just flat. Our energy wasn’t there. They played inspired too, maybe because of Marcio so they played inspired basketball and us, we weren’t ready from the start,” said Aguilar.
Justin Brownlee recorded a double-double for the Gin Kings with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Aguilar had 15 points and four rebounds.
“For sure, we’ll watch this game back, see what we can improve on and prepare. That’s really it. We have to finish strong. We have to focus.”
