Bushfire causes closure of Princes Hwy at Maddens Plains south of Sydney

A fire raging on the south coast of NSW has caused the closure of a major highway on Monday.

The Princes Hwy is closed in both directions between Sublime Point and Appin Rd at Maddens Plains, and motorists are being warned to allow extra time for travel and be aware of changing conditions.

Southbound traffic on the Princes Hwy is being turned around at Sublime Point to travel north, and northbound traffic is being diverted into Appin Rd, near the Bulli Lookout.

All southbound lanes of the M1 Princes Motorway have also been closed at Sublime Pnt.

Southbound traffic on the M1 is being turned around at Sublime Pnt to travel north on the Princes Hwy.

“Motorists travelling from Sydney to the Illawarra should consider using Appin Rd, Picton Rd or Lawrence Hargrave Dr instead,” Transport NSW said.

“Motorists in the area should follow the directions of emergency services and transport crews on site.”
