Drew Barrymore To ‘Practice Physical Distance’ On Her Show

Drew Barrymore plans to leave a bit more space between herself and future guests of her talk show.

In an Entertainment Tonight interview released Thursday, Barrymore was asked what she has in store for upcoming seasons of “The Drew Barrymore Show,” prompting her to say that “I’ll try to practice physical distance, which is not my strong point.”

Barrymore then seemed to offer an explanation for her usual habit of getting touchy-feely with her guests.

She noted that her show, which launched in September 2020, initially featured guests in a virtual format due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Do you know how hard the pandemic was for me? I was alone in a studio by myself,” she told ET. “I like to be around people.”

She said that her tactile interview style is “not everyone’s favorite,” adding, “I’m sorry to those people.”

Barrymore has faced criticism from those who say her physical affection with guests is a bit much.

In December, some social media users called Barrymore “cringey” for awkwardly touching TV legend Oprah Winfrey on an episode of the show. The “Charlie’s Angels” star held Winfrey’s hand and stroked her arm as the two talked.

But Winfrey later defended Barrymore, telling TMZ that she was “not uncomfortable at all” and that the host’s behavior was “endearing.”

“The Drew Barrymore Show” is set to return next month for its fifth season.

On Thursday, Wendy McMahon, the president and CEO of CBS News and Stations and CBS Media Ventures, announced that the daytime show has been renewed for a sixth season.
