A man has been attacked during an alleged home invasion while he was looking after his grandchildren in Western Sydney.
The violent break in occurred about 10.20pm on Tuesday, police said, at a home on The Horsley Dr in Smithfield.
A group of six armed men allegedly broke into the house.

The 51-year-old was attacked inside the home, police said.
He was taken by paramedics to Liverpool Hospital.
7NEWS understands the attack occurred while the man was looking after his grandchildren, aged four and six.
“Six males have entered the premises by force … we believe, between them, up to three firearms were in their possession,” Assistant Commissioner Brett McFadden told reporters.
“We’re very thankful on this occasion that the children weren’t physically harmed.”
The group of men fled the scene in two cars.
A crime scene was established.
An investigation has been launched.
