Body found in search for NSW engineer and father reported missing on Monday

A body has been found in the search for a leading engineer and father reported missing in northern NSW.

The alarm was raised for Greg Saenger, 45 from Ballina, when he was last seen near River St, Ballina about 7.30pm on Monday.

Richmond Police District officers launched an investigation into his whereabouts, fearing for his welfare, when loved ones could not contact him.

Police were called to South Ballina Beach about 6.30am Friday to reports a body had been found in the water.

The body is yet to be formally identified however police believe it is Saenger.

Saenger is the principal geotechnical engineer with Civil Consult, which he founded, according to the company’s website.

He has worked in the industry for more than 20 years.

“What Greg loves most about engineering is working on large infrastructure projects,” his website profile said.

“He has a passion for the temporary works space, where design can happen on the spot.

“Above all, he gets great satisfaction from helping out his clients with innovative engineering solutions.

“When Greg’s not working, you’ll find him out in the surf, swimming in the ocean or teaching his kids to surf and skate.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
