Flavor Flav, possibly the most well-known hype man in the history of rap music, has turned his sights on encouraging an Olympic discus thrower in need.

American Veronica Fraley, the 2024 NCAA discus champion while competing for Vanderbilt. tweeted Thursday that she’s unable to pay her rent in Nashville.
“I compete in the Olympic Games TOMORROW and can’t even pay my rent,” Fraley wrote on X. “My school only sent about 75% of my rent while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses.”
The tweet went viral, and caught the attention of the rapper, who in addition to his work with Public Enemy, was a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient, is also a reality TV star. He has been hanging out with Team USA in France and attending various events, particularly women’s water polo.
Flavor Flav, 65, wrote Fraley back, offering to help out. “I gotchu,,, DM me and I’ll send payment TODAY so you don’t have to worry bout it TOMORROW,,, and imma be rooting for ya tomorrow LETZ GO (sic),” he wrote.

That wasn’t all though. Alexis Ohanian, one of the founders of Reddit and the husband of tennis superstar Serena Williams, offered to split the rent with Flavor Flav and later tweeted a photo showing he’d given Fraley $7,760 U.S.

The rapper said he’d made the payment and expressed interest in seeing Fraley compete live. On Friday, Fraley thanked Ohanian and Flavor Flav, saying their help “makes every difference in the world.” Ohanian responded: “Now go be great.”
Fraley had earlier tweeted a link to a Gofundme and also tried to clarify that she wasn’t mad at Vanderbilt or the football team, but rather the “rules that bar me from making the amount I’m WORTH as a collegiate athlete such as NIL which favors popularity over performance. that’s all I’m sayin. Wish me luck (tomorrow)!”

Fraley, 24, won bronze in the discus throw at the United States Olympic Trials. She’s a two-time SEC champion and holds school records at Vanderbilt in both the discus and shot put.
Flavor Flav has toured the world numerous times, but had told Entertainment Tonight he had always wanted to attend an Olympics and was having a great time.
